Vision and Design
The proposal seeks outline planning permission for the erection a nursing care home for up to 67 bedrooms, specifically for those requiring care for dementia or similar end-of-life conditions which require a high level of care. The nursing home will be within Use Class C2, designed to high specifications of sustainable construction and accompanied by works including a new access junction to New Road, extensive landscaping including a new publicly accessible footpath as well as ecological mitigation, tree planting, boundary treatments and other necessary works.
The aim is to develop the site into a high-quality dementia care facility that integrates harmoniously with its surroundings, enhancing the overall character of both the site and the area.
The scheme will be carefully designed to minimise visual impact on the surrounding landscape. The main building mass will be concentrated in the central area, containing communal spaces. Whilst the designs shown are illustrative only, the intention is for the accommodation wings to offer various levels of care, extending from the core and tiering down in height towards the building’s edges.
The proposed building is sited within the existing woodland clearing. The proposal prioritises tree retention and minimises construction impact on preserved trees. Of the trees marked for removal, 85% are of low quality, classified as Category C or U. The project focuses on the ecological benefits of preserving mature trees while providing opportunities to plant new native species, and increasing biodiversity above the baseline position.
Due to significant visibility and location limitations of the existing informal track access, a new access point further north on the B4506 is proposed to prevent conflicts with neighbouring properties and driveways.
The building incorporates sustainable measures to harmonise with its surroundings and reduce impact on the countryside.
Neighbouring allotments offer an opportunity for future residents to use and enjoy as recreational and therapeutic activity under the assistance of nursing home staff.
The proposed project takes careful account of the woodland location and aims to blend in with the surrounding trees while minimising its ecological impact and visual impact within the green belt and AONB.
The design of building shown in the images here is illustrative only, but the intention is to ensure that the architectural massing emphasises a strong horizontal presence, with vertical articulation to the facades providing a balanced contrast. A stepped design will also visually break up the mass, reducing its impact on the woodland scenery.
The design will feature a modern form and natural materials such as timber cladding to integrate the structure seamlessly into the natural surroundings.
To protect local wildlife, external louvres and perforated screens will be used to prevent light spills at nighttime. Additionally, green and blue roofs will be integrated to enhance the existing ecosystem.
